City Break!

Right OK girlies (and guys)...
I'm going to London tomorrow for a week or maybe two, for an internship with a news office!
I am nervous and excited in equal measures, however I need to know what essentials I will need to pack!


So far all I can think of are toiletries, face wipes, hair straighteners and dryer, i-pod.....and I don't even know what to begin with clothes-wise.

I feel I need to take something versatile, such as a skirt that can be worn a few times differently, i.e high waisted etc. some smart jeans with tops that can easily be accessorised with scarfs and maybe some jewellery. A good pair of heels and a pair of flats as well as casual clothes and some going out dresses....hmmm all I need now is a bigger suitcase... (with extra space for bringing purchases home with too!)

the way we live now.

I love cities and all the different cultures that can be seen in just a single place. Me and my girl friends went for some Japanese food yesterday and then some Starbucks before we set off for some serious shopping. The different styles we found were as follows...

Lace - some of it was nice, but for some bizarre reason we managed to find each others funeral outfits with most of the stuff!

Fringing - I tried on a cute little cropped fringe jacket, but the nicest item was a sort of flapper style dress that had fringing round the hem.

Cowboy boots - to accompany the fringing perhaps a la cow boys and Indians!

Tartan - now this isn't tartan as in the checked shirts that are everywhere, this is more like the tartan you see on a kilt, and its on dresses everywhere. There was a v. cute one from Upper 5th, but shh there is one v. V. similar in Primark for much cheaper ;)

I cant remember what else we saw but I was restrained and only bought some jewellery,and this brooch which I promptly put on my jacket (but can't take a picture of as my camera is broken).

Killer Heels.

Last night I watched a show on BBC3 called "When Beauty Goes Wrong". While it certainly wasn't the most gripping programme I've ever watched, it did get me thinking about my own beauty limits.

I would never go for a sunbed, but the show showed a girl who, despite have had skin cancer already, still uses them! Then there was the woman who still has fake nails applied, even though her own nails have completely disintegrated underneath the glamorous manicured ones.

This all seems a bit OTT to me, but then they showed a very glamorous older woman who has lived in heels all her life. And my God, had her feet suffered as a result. So I had to ask myself, is my addiction to statement shoes going to cost me the use of my feet in the future?

Of course they then go to tell you that wearing the cutest little flat ballet pumps are equally as bad for you, so by this point I thought "what the heck" and went shoe browsing online instead!

Autumn is upon us...

Sigh. Just days ago I was eating ice cream at the sea side in high waisted denim shorts with little Joy Division print Tee tucked in, not a pair of opaque tights in sight. That is in typical British manner, which means that the minute there's a bit of sunshine the majority of the population are like bikini clad milk bottles (ie paler than pale) and just like me plan a road trip to the beach with friends.

ANYWAY...two days on and it's pouring with almost torrential-like rain and it's time to realise that what little summer we had, may have been our lot. So to keep spirits high I decided it was also time to see what autumn styles I will be wearing once my Luella style floral dresses are all packed away in time for going back to college.

The great thing is that greys and purples are going to be key, as this season is all dark romance and gothic. I already see soft grey long cardigans layered over dark jewel coloured tops and skinny jeans (which I will wear till the day I die!) and some platform ankle boots. YUM!

Pixie does New Look

Hmm... I just heard that the younger of the Geldof sisters, Pixie, is to be designing her own range for New Look. Apparently it's because her style is so unique. Now while I would want to borrow every single outfit in her wardrobe in a heartbeat, I wouldn't go as far as saying it was unique...more a collaboration of styles going on in London right now.

I'm not sure I'll be buying whatever designs she may dream up as I was ever so disappointed with the whole Lily Allen collection done for New Look, which just failed rather miserably.

To me this just looks like another party girl who's a bit bored and fancies doing a bit of what Kate Moss does for Topshop.

Formalities!

As this is my first entry I don't think I'll write about anything too specific.

I shall begin by rattling off a FEW of my favourite designers and shops.

In the city where I live, there is a wide selection of high-end designer stores, as well as little individual vintage boutiques...being a student I tend to lust after the former but practically live in the latter!

My favourite designers which I Google constantly for a quick-fix would have to be Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Chloé and Alexander McQueen.

As for every day wear I love, love, love Topshop and Urban Outfitters. H&M of course for all my essentials and I can never say no to a quick look round Primark for a little bargain.

I would say my current style icons are Lauren Conrad (The Hills) and Nicole Richie as they both manage to stick to their own style and what suits them, as well as incorporating key fashion items.

Alexa Chung is also someone who's style I admire, as she is the epitome of effortless chic, something I can only try to achieve (as well as bagging a rock star boyfriend).

So I hope I have given you a brief idea of what I'm about and that I will find plenty to write about in the future!
